How to calculate your GPA

  1. Type each course name (optional — it just helps you keep track).
  2. Pick the letter grade you received from the dropdown.
  3. Enter the credit hours for that course.
  4. Click + Add course for more classes, or × to remove a row.
  5. Read your GPA and total credits, then click Copy to save the result.

How GPA is weighted

Each grade maps to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). The calculator multiplies every course’s grade points by its credits, sums those values, and divides by the total credits. Because it is weighted, a high grade in a 4-credit class moves your average more than the same grade in a 1-credit class. Only courses with both a grade and credits above zero are counted.

Frequently asked questions

How is GPA calculated on a 4.0 scale?

Each letter grade is worth a number of grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). The calculator multiplies each course’s grade points by its credit hours, adds those up, and divides by the total credit hours. This gives a credit-weighted grade point average, so courses worth more credits count more toward your GPA.

What grade points does this calculator use?

It uses the common US 4.0 scale: A+ and A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7, and F = 0.0. Your school may weight some grades differently, so check your institution’s official scale if you need an exact match.

Do credit hours matter for GPA?

Yes. GPA is weighted by credits, so a 4-credit class affects your average more than a 1-credit class with the same grade. Only rows that have both a grade selected and credit hours greater than zero are included in the calculation.

How many courses can I add?

As many as you like. Use the Add course button to append a new row for each class, and the Remove button to delete any row you don’t need. The GPA and total credits update live as you type.

Is my grade information sent anywhere?

No. This GPA calculator runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The courses, grades, and credits you enter are never uploaded or stored, so it is completely private.
