Count business days with your own workweek
Use this working days calculator to count available full days for a project, leave request, or team schedule. Choose which weekdays are working days, decide whether each boundary counts, and paste the dates your team is closed. The result separates calendar days, non-working weekdays, and listed exclusions so you can check the total.
How to calculate days excluding weekends and holidays
- Enter the first and last dates. The end must be on or after the start.
- Keep both boundary boxes selected to count an entire inclusive date range, or turn either off.
- Select your working weekdays. For a standard weekend, leave Saturday and Sunday unselected.
- Enter observed public holidays, company closures, or personal days off. Verify the relevant dates for your schedule; this tool does not supply a holiday calendar.
- Read the breakdown or copy the summary, which includes the date range and counting rules.
Worked examples
Each example includes both boundary dates and uses a Monday–Friday workweek.
- Monday 5 October–Sunday 11 October 2026: 7 calendar days minus 2 weekend days gives 5 business days.
- The same week with 7 October entered as a day off: 7 minus 2 minus 1 gives 4 business days. Listing that date twice still removes only one day.
- Friday 9 October–Monday 12 October 2026: 4 calendar days minus 2 weekend days gives 2 business days, before any holiday you enter. Excluding the Friday start leaves 1.
- One Saturday, 10 October 2026: 1 calendar day minus 1 non-working weekday gives 0 business days.
Find a due date by adding or subtracting workdays
The business-date section uses the same workweek and date exclusions as the counter. It steps away from the start date and counts only selected working weekdays that are not in the exclusion list:
- Add 5 workdays to Monday 5 October 2026: the result is Monday 12 October. The following Saturday and Sunday are skipped.
- Also exclude Wednesday 7 October: the same five-workday offset ends on Tuesday 13 October.
- Subtract 1 workday from Monday 5 October: the result is Friday 2 October.
- Add 0 workdays: the start date remains unchanged, even if it is not a selected working day.
Business days, calendar days, and hours
A listed holiday already on a non-working weekday is not subtracted twice. Duplicate dates are counted once. Dates outside the counted range do not change the answer. Selecting every weekday gives a calendar-day count with your specified dates removed.
This is a whole-date planning tool. It does not account for half-days, working hours, substitute working weekends, or special deadline rules. For total calendar days, use the Date Difference Calculator. To add calendar days or months, use the Date Calculator. For an hourly shift and breaks, use the Time Duration Calculator.
