Free online text-to-speech reader

This text-to-speech tool reads any text aloud straight from your browser. Paste an article, a paragraph you are proofreading, or a script you want to hear, then pick a voice and press play. It is handy for catching awkward sentences, giving your eyes a rest, or turning notes into audio you can listen to while you do something else. Because it uses the voices provided by your browser or device, there is nothing to download and no sign-up.

How to use the text-to-speech tool

  1. Type or paste your text into the box, or press Load example to try a short sample.
  2. Choose a voice from the dropdown — options depend on your device.
  3. Adjust the rate and pitch sliders to taste.
  4. Press Play, then use Pause, Resume, or Stop. Press Restart to read again with edited text or settings.

Why listen to your writing

Hearing text read back is one of the fastest ways to spot typos, repeated words, and clunky phrasing that the eye glides over. Pair it with our word counter to keep an eye on length, or tidy up formatting first with the case converter so your headings and sentences read cleanly out loud.

Browser-based voices and privacy

Device voices only is checked by default so the reader cannot accidentally fall back to a browser-default or network voice. The available local voices come from your device and browser. If no device voice is available, uncheck the option to choose a network voice or browser default. Network voices may send the text to your browser's voice provider for synthesis. Wyvek does not upload or save your text and does not include what you type in analytics events.

Frequently asked questions

How does this text-to-speech tool work?

It uses your browser's Web Speech API. Press Play to read your text with a voice provided by your browser or operating system. Device voices use a local speech service; network voices use a remote service. The voice dropdown labels both types.

Why do the available voices differ between devices?

The voice list comes from your operating system and browser, not from this site. Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Chrome each ship their own voices and languages, so the names and quantity you see depend on the device you are using.

Why is the voice dropdown empty at first?

Browsers load voices asynchronously. The dropdown updates as voices become available and keeps your selected voice if it is still available. You can try the browser default while waiting. If playback fails, try another voice or browser.

Can I change the speed and pitch?

Yes. Rate controls speed (0.5 to 2) and Pitch controls how high or low the voice sounds (0 to 2). Changes to the text or settings apply when you press Play or Restart. Resume continues the current reading from its paused position.

Is my text private?

Wyvek does not upload or save the text you enter. Device-only playback is enabled by default and requires a local voice; if none is available you can opt in to browser-default or network voices, which may send text to the browser voice provider. No entered text is included in our analytics events.
